Hernando home evacuated, intersection closed for sinkhole

SPRING HILL, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Hernando County deputies say one home remains evacuated and an intersection is closed in Spring Hill after a possible sinkhole opened up Saturday evening.

Deputies say the hole is located at the intersection of Eldridge Road and Van Allen Way and measured approximately 25x25 yards and 30 feet deep when they arrived on scene. Since that time, they say the depression has grown to approximately 40x40 yards, remaining at approximately 30 feet deep.

Three homes were temporarily evacuated; however, the residents were later permitted to return to their homes while one home remains evacuated.

No one was injured.

Notifications have been made to Hernando County Emergency Management, WREC, Hernando County Utilities, and Hernando County Fire/Rescue.
