CLEARWATER, Fla. (970 WFLA) - One person is dead after an overnight plane crash in Clearwater.

Clearwater Police say one man is dead after a single-engine plane crashed at about 4 a.m. on McMullen Booth Road. The road is closed between Union and Enterprise.

Police say the plane came to rest mostly in the median of the six-lane street.

Police also say two teenage girls have been taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa for treatment. As of Sunday afternoon at 3:36 p.m., Pinellas deputies say both are still being treated at a local hospital with serious injuries.

When Clearwater Fire and rescue crews arrived on the scene, police said there were small fires to put out from debris on the road.

Pinellas County deputies said the three people on board were coming from the Chicago area to the St. Pete/Clearwater Airport and left at 6:30 p.m. the night before. PCSO said they crashed just a few miles north of the airport.
