PLANT CITY, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Hillsborough County deputies say two men were arrested and charged with armed carjacking after deputies say they stole someone’s car and then led police on a chase.

Deputies say it all began around 4:15 Friday morning when two men, one armed with a handgun, stole the victim's 2006 Chevy Malibu from a gas station off of S.R. 60 and Hwy 39 in Plant City and fired a shot from the car as they drove away.

Deputies say they later spotted the stolen car on Lithia-Pinecrest Road in the Fishhawk area. A deputy followed the car and after more units joined in, they tried to stop the suspects, but the suspects refused to pull over and led deputies on a 10-minute chase.

Deputies say the pursuit ended when the driver lost control of the stolen vehicle and flipped it over in a ditch on S.R. 640 just east of Bonnie Mine Road in Polk County.

Both suspects were captured after hiding a fourth of a mile from the crash site.

Deputies have recovered a loaded kel-tec 9mm semi-automatic handgun in the stolen vehicle.

There were no other injuries or property damage as a result of this incident.
