WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Winter Haven Police say officers have arrested a Lakeland man who stalked and battered a woman at the Cypress Gardens Boulevard SE Walmart store, more specifically, kissed the woman against her will.
Police say the suspect was seen on store surveillance video on June 2, 2014 approaching three separate women who were shopping - two have not been identified – and another, a 58-year-old female victim with mobility issues on a motorized cart.
Police say the suspect approached the victim claiming to be a cardiologist that treated her at a Lakeland hospital. They say he continuously complimented her on how beautiful she looked and told the victim she looked like his deceased wife. Then, police say the suspect tried to persuade the victim to leave and go to dinner with him, but she declined.
After the conversation, police say the victim reached to grab an item from the shelf at which time the suspect grabbed her by her shoulders, kissed her against her will, and when the victim sat back down on the cart, he ran away.
Based on a tip that was prompted by the store surveillance image published on the Winter Haven Police Department's Facebook page, authorities say the suspect was identified as 67-year-old Mario Augusto Medina.
Police say Medina was arrested and booked into the Polk County Jail for the following charges: aggravated stalking and abuse of a disabled adult without great harm.
