Alleged Serial Killer Murdered Nine People Over Three Weeks

An Arizona man has been accused of being one of the most prolific serial killers in the history of the state. According to Fox News, police say Cleophus Cooksey Jr. murdered nine people over the course of three weeks in late 2017.

Cooksey Jr. was arrested on December 17, 2017 after police found him inside an apartment with the bodies of his mother and stepfather while responding to a report of shots fired.

After police had Cooksey Jr. in custody, they were able to link him to seven other homicides that started on November 27th. AZ Central reports police used ballistics from his gun to link him to the other murders, and police say the number of people he killed could increase as the investigation continues.

Cooksey Jr. has a lengthy criminal history. He was released from prison in 2017 following a 16 year sentence for manslaughter, after an accomplice shot and killed a bar manager during a robbery at a topless bar. While in prison he was found guilty of 22 violations, including drug possession and assaulting prison staff.
