The Florida Department of Law Enforcement says a Marion County woman blamed for the death of an elderly man in her care is now facing charges. Rebecca Fierle was arrested last night for aggravated abuse and neglect of an elderly person.
Fierle was guardian to a 74-year-old man who died nine months ago after Fierle signed a 'Do Not Resuscitate' even though Steven Stryker said he wanted to live.
"We had a guardian who was placed in a position of trust go against those wishes," Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody says, "keep a DNR in place, and it is squarely because of that decision that a man choked to death."
Stryker's feeding tube was capped and he died May, 13, 2019, at a Tampa hospital.
Fierle claims the law didn't require her to get approval from her clients before filing DNRs.
Fierle was booked into the Marion County Jail and posted bond Tuesday morning.
