LISTEN: West Nile Virus Case in Hillsborough County

TAMPA -- County mosquito control officials are urging Hillsborough residents to drain water after a case of West Nile virus.

The Florida Department of Health says one case of West Nile has been confirmed and there is concern that additional residents may get sick.

Hillsborough County and FDOH are urging residents to drain water from gutters, buckets, pool covers, flowerpots, or other containers where it has collected. Old tires and other broken items gathering rainwater outdoors should be discarded. Birdbaths and pet bowls outdoors should be emptied and cleaned at least once a week. Swimming pools should be kept chlorinated and plastic/inflatable pools should be drained.
