WATCH: Sarasota Police Rescue Dog from Hot Car

SARASOTA -- Police were just in time to rescue a dog from a hot car in Sarasota.

They responded to a location on University Parkway earlier this week to a report of a dog locked inside a car that was turned off. They broke out a back window for the rescue. Police and county animal control deputies observed the dog was drooling. The owner, who insisted he left the car running, received two citations from County Animal Services.

The obvious message to pet owners: don't leave your dog unattended in the car. This could have had tragic results.
