A man wielding a chainsaw was fatally shot by police at a senior living facility in St. Charles, Illinois. The incident occurred early Sunday morning at the River Glen of St. Charles, following a welfare call to the police.
According to witnesses, the shirtless man initially attempted to cut down a tree on the property. He then entered the assisted living center and confronted residents with the chainsaw, as stated in a news release by the St. Charles police.
Despite attempts by the responding officers to deescalate the situation, the man continued to threaten the residents, police officers, and the building with the chainsaw. Police used a stun gun on the man, but he persisted in his attack.
In response to the continued threat, an officer was forced to fire his service weapon at the man, resulting in his death. The identity of the man has not been released at this time.
